Date:

Charmaine Shovelton, a 55-year-old woman from Taunton, is preparing to run her first-ever London Marathon this April to raise funds for SeeAbility, a charity supporting people with sight loss, learning disabilities, and autism. Originally from Australia, Charmaine is halfway to her fundraising goal of £2,225, thanks to the generosity of her supporters.

In addition to her online sponsorship campaign, Charmaine has organised several successful fundraising events, such as a sound bath and a clothes swap. Her next major event is a quiz night at West Monkton Village Hall, scheduled for Saturday, 15th March. Tickets are still available for the fun evening, which will contribute to her efforts in reaching her target.

Charmaine admitted that training for the marathon has been challenging, particularly with early morning training sessions in the cold and rain. However, she remains motivated by the knowledge that she is supporting a cause close to her heart. “SeeAbility’s work is truly inspiring, and I’m honoured to support them,” Charmaine said. “It’s been tough at times, but I know it’s all for such an important cause, and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

Charmaine expressed her gratitude to local businesses, including The Body Shop, Timpson, and YouFit Taunton, who have generously donated raffle prizes to aid her fundraising efforts. She also thanked the local community for their continuous support as she continues her training and fundraising journey. SeeAbility, also known as The Royal School for the Blind, provides specialist care to individuals with complex needs, helping them to live as independently as possible.
