The Stranger Things star, who plays Karen Wheeler in the Netflix series, reflected on the difficulties Brown faced as a child in the public eye. Buono expressed frustration at the abuse Brown received on social media, calling it “outrageous” and “disgusting”. She emphasised how protective she feels towards Brown and the young cast members, insisting that no child should ever endure such treatment.
Buono also spoke candidly about her own experiences with fertility struggles, revealing that she suffered multiple miscarriages while working on Stranger Things. She explained that being surrounded by the young cast became especially meaningful during a period when she was coming to terms with not having more children. Buono described herself as a “de facto mum” to many of them and said she cherishes staying involved in their lives and watching them grow.
