Kelly Osbourne has surprised her mother, Sharon Osbourne, with a touching birthday gesture — her first since the death of her husband, legendary Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzy passed away at the age of 76 on 22 July from heart failure at his home in Buckinghamshire, just a fortnight after performing a farewell concert with his bandmates at Birmingham’s Villa Park.

Kelly, 40, shared videos on Instagram showing the surprise decorations she had arranged while her mother slept, including balloons and neatly wrapped gifts. “Shhh! So it’s my mum’s birthday today, and I just decorated her room,” she whispered in one of the clips, before showing Sharon, who had just turned 73, still asleep. Sharon later expressed gratitude for the “overwhelming love and support” she has received since Ozzy’s death, saying she had been “carried through” by family and friends and was “still finding her footing.”
Her son, Jack Osbourne, told Good Morning America that their mother was “okay, but she’s not okay,” adding: “I know she feels the love.” A new BBC One documentary, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home, chronicles the rock icon’s final years and his return to Britain after more than three decades in the US. It coincides with the release of the Paramount+ film Ozzy: No Escape From Now, which features contributions from the couple’s eldest daughter, Aimée Osbourne.

Ozzy had faced numerous health challenges, including Parkinson’s disease and coronary artery disease, prior to his death. His death certificate listed his causes of death as “out of hospital cardiac arrest, acute myocardial infarction, coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease with autonomic dysfunction.” In a family statement released in July, they said: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.” Known as the “Prince of Darkness”, Ozzy helped shape heavy metal with Black Sabbath’s 1969 debut album and their classic 1970 follow-up Paranoid, featuring timeless tracks such as War Pigs, Iron Man and Fairies Wear Boots.
