Pop star Katy Perry has described feeling “super connected to love” after journeying into space on Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin flight, becoming one of six women on the all-female crew. Upon her return, she held a daisy in the air to honour her daughter, kissed the ground, and sang What A Wonderful World—a touching moment that resonated with both her fellow astronauts and audiences watching from Earth. Speaking emotionally about the experience, the 40-year-old performer hinted that her spaceflight would inspire a future song.

Joining Perry on the mission were CBS presenter Gayle King, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, astronaut Amanda Nguyen, producer Kerianne Flynn, and Bezos’s partner Lauren Sanchez. As the New Shepard NS-31 soared skyward from West Texas, Perry was heard exclaiming “oh my god” in amazement, before the spacecraft reached zero gravity. Crew members were briefly unstrapped from their seats and shown the moon before their safe return just under 20 minutes later. Daisy, Perry’s daughter, watched proudly as the crew landed.
Reflecting on her daughter’s namesake flower, Perry explained that daisies symbolise resilience and strength—attributes she wanted to celebrate and carry with her into space. She described them as “God’s smile”, using the moment as a reminder of the beauty and fragility of Earth. Her choice to sing Louis Armstrong’s iconic track instead of her own hits, said King, showed Perry’s focus on the collective spirit of the mission. “It’s not about singing my songs,” Perry said. “It’s about us, the world, and making space for future women.”

Perry called the trip “second only to being a mum”, adding that her spaceflight modelled “courage, worthiness and fearlessness” for her daughter. She revealed that she even finalised her upcoming tour setlist while in orbit, expressing how deeply the voyage had touched her. Since beginning her career in 2001, Perry has become a household name with UK chart-toppers such as Roar, Teenage Dream and Firework. Her most recent album, 143, marked a new chapter—and with this celestial experience behind her, another may be on the horizon.
