Trump calls for Soros to face racketeering charges amid ongoing political feuds

Date:

US President Donald Trump has called for billionaire Democrat donor George Soros, 95, and his son to face racketeering and corruption charges over alleged support for “violent protests” across the United States. Trump, a long-time critic of Soros, made the claims in a post on Truth Social, suggesting the allegations warranted action under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations (RICO) Act.

Trump wrote that “we’re not going to allow these lunatics to rip apart America any more, never giving it so much as a chance to breathe and be free,” adding that Soros and his associates “have caused great damage to our country.” He also issued a warning to other political adversaries, stating: “That includes his crazy, West Coast friends. Be careful, we’re watching you!” No evidence has been presented to substantiate these claims.

Soros’s Open Society Foundations, which fund human rights, government transparency, public health, and education initiatives worldwide, strongly denied the allegations. A spokesman described Trump’s claims as “outrageous and false,” stressing that the organisation does not support or fund violent protests and that its mission is to promote justice, human rights, and democratic principles both domestically and internationally.

Trump’s accusations come amid a broader pattern of targeting former allies, critics, and political opponents. He has called for investigations into former national security adviser John Bolton, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, New York Attorney Letitia James, and Democratic Senator Adam Schiff. Trump himself, along with several alleged co-conspirators, was charged with racketeering in Georgia in 2023 in connection with efforts to overturn the 2020 election result.
