Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that those who choose to return to their home countries via the CBP Home app—designed to encourage “self-deportation”—will receive financial and travel assistance upon arrival. The move is being promoted as a more cost-effective and safer alternative to traditional deportation procedures.

Noem claimed the initiative offers a 70 per cent saving for US taxpayers compared to standard deportation costs, which average over $17,000 per person. The first case under the new system reportedly involved a person travelling from Chicago to Honduras, with more departures scheduled in the coming weeks. The programme is also framed as a way to avoid confrontation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, offering what the administration calls a “dignified” exit.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is facing legal scrutiny over its broader deportation agenda, including the high-profile case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Deported earlier this year despite a pending legal review, Mr Abrego Garcia’s return has been ordered by the US Supreme Court. The administration, however, has resisted, alleging his involvement in the MS-13 gang—claims disputed by his wife and legal representatives.

In a separate development, reports suggest the administration is considering financial incentives to increase the birth rate, including so-called “baby bonuses” and a £5,000 payment to mothers following childbirth. Other proposals include honours such as a “National Medal of Motherhood” for women with six or more children, alongside educational initiatives focused on fertility awareness. The measures are part of a broader push to promote traditional family values.
