Emails sent by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency asking federal workers to respond with five accomplishments each week have reportedly encountered a technical issue. The billionaire, tasked with streamlining federal operations, had ordered workers to submit their weekly achievements as part of a Trump administration initiative aimed at significantly reducing the federal workforce.

However, many employees found their emails bouncing back with messages stating that the department’s inbox was full and could not accept further emails. According to Bloomberg, emails seen by workers stated: “The recipient’s mailbox is full and can’t accept messages now. Please try resending your message later, or contact the recipient directly.” The issue reportedly affected employees across the Social Security Administration, Department of Health and Human Services, and the Internal Revenue Service.
Despite the technical hiccup being quickly resolved, some federal employees have reportedly stopped submitting their reports without facing any repercussions. One employee mentioned sending the same five accomplishments every week without being questioned. Another stated that the reports seem to go unread. Following initial confusion and backlash across government departments, Musk defended the emails as a way of checking if employees “had a pulse.”

In addition to his efficiency drive, Musk and his DOGE team have also been enlisted to assist the White House and National Security Council in investigating a security breach involving a journalist being added to a Signal group chat with national security officials. Musk’s technical experts have been tasked with ensuring that such an error does not occur again.
