Speaking on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast alongside her fiancé, Benny Blanco, Gomez expressed her frustration with the disproportionate criticism women receive. “From my perspective, it’s pretty wild. I don’t think this is news to anyone, but women clearly face much harsher judgement—from how they look to what they wear and beyond,” she said. Blanco, in contrast, admitted he largely ignores online negativity.
Gomez described how scrutiny affects her experience at public events, saying: “Most of the time, when I’m getting ready, I just hope I can take the picture and sit down. It’s my character that gets judged—people say I’m not white enough, not Mexican enough.” She also pointed out the double standards in public perception, adding, “When it comes to who I date, nobody seems to care as much when it’s a man.”

The singer also addressed ongoing comments about her weight, admitting that while she tries to ignore criticism, it has left her feeling bitter at times. “Everyone has something to say, and it does get to me. I wouldn’t call myself a victim, but it’s hard not to feel affected,” she explained. To protect her mental health, Gomez takes breaks from social media, acknowledging both its challenges and influence. “I don’t hate it—I understand its power—it’s just tricky,” she concluded.
