Prince William reveals his secret football forum habit

Date:

Prince William has admitted to spending time lurking on football forums under a secret alias, revealing that he is more than just a casual observer when it comes to his beloved Aston Villa. Although he didn’t specifically mention Reddit, the Prince of Wales confessed to engaging in online discussions about his favourite team, Aston Villa, on platforms such as Reddit or VillaTalk. Speaking to The Sun, William shared that he spends “ages” on these forums, adding that it’s “important to have that debate” with fellow fans.

The Prince of Wales has been a devoted Aston Villa supporter since his youth, making a deliberate choice to support the Birmingham club over the more popular teams at the time. His passion for Villa continues to shape his matchday rituals, with William admitting that he uses his children in a superstitious routine to change the team’s fortunes. “If we’re not doing very well, I start moving around the house quite quickly and I put the children in different positions hoping that’s going to change our luck,” he explained.

William’s enthusiasm for Villa pits him against other family members who support rival clubs. The late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry were both believed to be Arsenal fans, while King Charles III is said to support Burnley FC, a club he has been involved with due to its challenges. William’s attachment to Villa runs deep, and during an interview at Villa Park, he recalled how he felt a sense of belonging in the crowd when he was younger. “With the camaraderie among the fans and the chanting and the singing, I just felt like I belonged there,” he said.

The Prince of Wales was at Villa Park last week, witnessing his team qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals with a convincing 3-0 victory over Club Brugge. Reflecting on his support for the club, William explained how his interest grew during Villa’s relegation to the Championship in 2016 and how modern technology, particularly smartphones, has allowed him to track and discuss the team’s progress more easily than in the past. As a lifelong Villa fan, William remains hopeful for the club’s future success, even praising England’s new football manager, Thomas Tuchel, and expressing confidence in a potential World Cup victory next year.
