Prince of Wales and Duke of Sussex carry out separate engagements amid family tensions

Date:

The Prince of Wales will attend an engagement in Sunningdale, Berkshire, on Monday to mark the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death, while his estranged brother, the Duke of Sussex, will be in London for the WellChild Awards, a charity he has long supported. Harry will then travel to a community recording studio in Nottingham on Tuesday, though it remains unclear whether any reunion with William will take place during his visit. The King, currently at Balmoral in Aberdeenshire, has no public engagements planned for the week.

Harry and William last met in February 2024 when the Duke of Sussex visited the King after his cancer diagnosis, but their meeting lasted just over 30 minutes. Both brothers attended the funeral of their uncle Lord Fellowes last year in Norfolk, but reportedly had no interaction. On Tuesday, William will visit Spiral Skills in Tulse Hill, a youth organisation supported by his Homewards homelessness initiative, while Harry will revisit the Community Recording Studio in Nottingham, engaging with young people and local stakeholders.

Coach Core, originally launched by William, Harry, and the now-Princess of Wales in 2012 to support apprentices through sport, has since become an independent charity. Harry’s engagements will include briefings with Children in Need, the Police and Crime Commission, CRS, and Epic Partners, highlighting the work of grassroots organisations. Meanwhile, William will participate in workshops with Young Creators UK and speak with former England midfielder Fara Williams about the impact of Spiral Skills in boosting confidence and employability skills among young people.

On Wednesday, William will visit a new mental health hub at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, operated by the Jac Lewis Foundation in memory of Jac Lewis. The hub, backed by the Royal Foundation, aims to provide support for those at risk of suicide and will operate one day per week over three years. Harry has expressed hopes for reconciliation with his family, despite past public criticisms, court disputes over his security, and ongoing estrangement from the King and the Prince of Wales.
