South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Mace cancelled a speech in Horry County after only a small crowd attended. The event, hosted by far-right group Moms for Liberty, was intended to discuss “protecting parental rights,” and organisers had urged people to RSVP in advance due to limited seating. Despite the low turnout, Mace did not take the stage, with a team member fielding questions and meeting attendees individually.

At least 100 people were expected, but the event drew far fewer. Nevertheless, Mace boasted to reporters that she is dominating the polls in the state’s gubernatorial race. She emphasised Horry County’s importance, noting it “makes presidents” and credited it with supporting Donald Trump, claiming her campaign is winning by double digits, particularly among Trump supporters.
Recent polling shows Mace leading the five-way Republican contest with 25 percent support among GOP voters. The survey found that 83 percent of respondents were aware of her, and Mace’s campaign has attracted attention for her attacks on transgender Americans, including Rep. Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender member of Congress. Other candidates in the race include Attorney General Alan Wilson, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, and Rep. Ralph Norman.

Mace reportedly shared the poll results with Trump, who then posted them on Truth Social. Once a critic of the former president following January 6, 2021, Mace and Trump have since reconciled, with mutual endorsements for Congress and the 2024 presidential election. She recently requested Trump’s backing for her gubernatorial run, describing herself as “Trump in high heels.”
