Counter-terrorism police investigate suspicious fire at Keir Starmer’s North London home

Date:

Counter-terrorism officers are leading an investigation into a fire at a house owned by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, after flames broke out in the early hours of Monday morning. The London Fire Brigade responded shortly after 1.30am to the north London property, where the front door was damaged. No injuries were reported. The four-bedroom home, reportedly being rented out while Starmer resides in Downing Street, has a history of being targeted due to its political associations.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident is being treated as suspicious and has assigned its Counter Terrorism Command – SO15 – to oversee the case as a precaution, given the property’s connection to a high-profile political figure. Officers and fire investigators were seen at the scene in Kentish Town, and a police cordon remained in place throughout Monday.

A spokesperson for the Met stated that the fire’s cause remains under investigation. Meanwhile, the London Fire Brigade reported that the fire, which was limited to the property’s exterior, was brought under control within 20 minutes of their arrival. Two fire engines from Kentish Town station attended the incident.

Downing Street issued a brief statement thanking emergency services for their swift response but declined to comment further due to the ongoing inquiry. The house, purchased by Starmer and his wife Victoria in 2004, has previously been the site of protests, including a pro-Palestinian demonstration last year that resulted in convictions for public order offences.
