Travis Kelce chose a traditional approach when proposing to Taylor Swift, by first seeking her father’s approval. The 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end asked Scott Swift, 72, for permission to marry his daughter around a month before proposing in the garden of his own home earlier this month. The engagement was later announced on 26 August via Instagram.

Speaking on Australian radio’s The Jimmy and Nath Show with Emma, Kelce’s father, Ed, 73, revealed he had spoken with Scott about the request. He said Scott had encouraged Travis to move ahead without delay, reportedly telling him: “Well, come on, when are you going to get this done?” Ed admitted he, too, had been nudging his son to make the commitment.
Ed explained that Travis initially intended to stage a more elaborate proposal during a trip to Brazil for a Kansas City Chiefs fixture, but both fathers urged him to prioritise the gesture itself over the setting. “Asking her is what’s going to make it special. It’s not where you do it,” Ed recalled telling his son. Scott added his agreement, advising him to “just get it done”.

Ultimately, Travis followed their advice. He invited Taylor for a glass of wine in the garden before dinner, where she noticed the flowers arranged especially for the occasion. Reflecting on the moment, Ed said: “I’ve never seen him quite so happy. These are two young people madly in love, and I think it’s wonderful.”
