Retired Olympic diver Tom Daley has shared insights into his time filming The Celebrity Traitors, describing the experience as “very fun” and emotionally intense. The upcoming BBC charity spin-off, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, will feature 19 celebrities, including Alan Carr and Sir Stephen Fry, as they take part in what’s described as “the ultimate game of deceit and betrayal” in the Scottish Highlands. Daley revealed that being cut off from the outside world brought him closer to his fellow contestants, though he remained tight-lipped about specific details due to programme restrictions.

The celebrity version of The Traitors is set to air in the autumn and will span nine episodes, with the winner receiving up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice. Daley reflected fondly on the connections formed during the show, saying: “It was great to see everybody and get to know everyone on a much deeper level, and very intense level, because you’re completely shut off from the rest of the world.”
Daley also appears in a new Discovery+ documentary titled Tom Daley: 1.6 Seconds. The 90-minute film, named after the time it takes to fall from platform to pool, traces his journey from the build-up to his Olympic debut in Beijing 2008 through to his retirement following the Paris 2024 Games. It features candid interviews and personal footage, including emotional moments with his late father and husband, Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

Describing the documentary as “a very vulnerable side” of himself, Daley said it provides a new perspective on the pressures of growing up in the public eye. He added: “Hearing my dad’s voice really makes me quite emotional. I’m just grateful to have this documentary to look back on – and for my kids to be able to see and have those moments made eternal, if you like.” Daley’s father died in 2011, before witnessing his son’s first Olympic medal win in London the following year.
