Tom Cruise teases New Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning trailer ahead of release

Date:

Tom Cruise has confirmed that a new trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be released tomorrow. The actor, who reprises his iconic role as Ethan Hunt in the franchise’s eighth instalment, made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), posting a dramatic image of himself clinging to the wheels of an airborne plane — true to the film’s trademark death-defying stunts.

++ Regenerative agriculture: a path to healthier soils and wildlife

The upcoming trailer is expected to be the same one unveiled last week at CinemaCon, featuring Cruise’s superspy hanging from a biplane mid-flight and leaping from a ship’s deck into the ocean, according to Variety. The last official trailer was released in November, which surprised fans by revealing the return of Angela Bassett as Erika Sloane, after she was absent from the previous film.

Several familiar faces return in this sequel, including Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg as IMF agents Luther Stickell and Benji Dunn, Hayley Atwell as Grace, Esai Morales as antagonist Gabriel, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna Mitsopolis, and Pom Klementieff as Paris. Rolf Saxon is also making a nostalgic comeback as William Donloe from the original Mission: Impossible film. Newcomers to the cast include Hannah Waddingham, Katy O’Brian, Janet McTeer, Lucy Tulugarjuk, and Tramell Tillman.

++ Amanda Holden and Alan Carr set for new renovation adventure in Greece

The film picks up where Dead Reckoning left off and is scheduled for UK cinema release on 23 May. While many speculate this could be Ethan Hunt’s final mission, director Christopher McQuarrie hinted otherwise in a 2023 interview. “There’s always a plan, but it always changes,” he said, describing the chaotic nature of the film’s production. “You never fully understand, or trust where it is you’re going, until you get there.”
