Following the record-breaking success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds is said to be developing ideas for a new film that will introduce several X-Men characters. While the foul-mouthed anti-hero will still appear, the focus of the next instalment may shift to showcase three or four members of the X-Men in unexpected and imaginative ways.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds, who also produces the franchise, is working on early treatments for this ensemble film. This new collaboration would be distinct from the upcoming live-action X-Men reboot currently being scripted by The Hunger Games writer Michael Lesslie for Marvel Studios.
Deadpool & Wolverine has seemingly paved the way for an expanded X-Men universe within the franchise. The most recent film included appearances from classic villains like Sabretooth (Tyler Mane) and Pyro (Aaron Stanford), while Hugh Jackman returned as Wolverine. Fans also witnessed Channing Tatum finally appear as Gambit, a character he had long been linked to in a cancelled solo project.

Tatum is set to feature in Avengers: Doomsday alongside legacy X-Men stars such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn. Reflecting on Deadpool’s place among Marvel’s iconic teams, Reynolds suggested that joining the Avengers or the X-Men might ironically mark the end of the character’s arc. “His dream is to be accepted… but he can’t be. If he ever does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey,” he said.
