Mel B hints at ‘Spice Girls’ reunion despite group’s mixed reactions

Date:

Mel B, also known as Scary Spice, has revealed that she occasionally gets removed from the Spice Girls’ WhatsApp group after suggesting the band might tour again. The group reunited in 2019 for a successful tour, although Victoria Beckham did not participate. Since then, fans have eagerly hoped for another reunion, and Mel B has hinted that it could be on the cards. However, her bandmates often tell her to “stop saying that,” showing some reluctance within the group.

The singer discussed the dynamic of the group during an episode of Alison Hammond’s Big Weekend, filmed on Mel’s farm and broadcast on 6 June. Mel explained that she sometimes doesn’t respond to messages because she tends to say the wrong thing. When she mentions the prospect of a new tour, one of the girls tells her off, saying: “Stop saying that.” Yet Mel insists she believes it will happen. She reflected on the 2019 tour, expressing her wish for the others to come around to the idea.

Mel also spoke fondly of the close bond within the group, describing it as a “tribe” sharing the same goals, visions, and ambitions. She recalled their sudden rise to fame in 1996 with the hit single Wannabe, which topped charts worldwide. Despite their massive success, Mel described feeling like “five giddy kids,” questioning if they’d be “found out” amid a music scene dominated by manufactured boy bands. The Spice Girls forged their own path, writing much of their material and breaking the usual mould for pop groups.

On a more personal note, Mel opened up about her relationship with bandmate Geri Horner, admitting they used to “butt heads a lot.” When asked if that was still the case, she said they now just don’t speak much, likening it to the ebb and flow of sisterly relationships. Mel also reflected on Geri’s departure in 1998 and her struggle with bulimia, expressing empathy and understanding for her decision to leave and escape the pressures she faced.
