Marvel Studios has officially announced that production is underway for Avengers: Doomsday, revealing an all-star cast for the highly anticipated film. Scheduled for release on 1 May 2026, the film will feature Robert Downey Jr in the role of Doctor Doom. This marks a striking return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for the actor, who famously portrayed Iron Man across nine films from 2008 to 2019.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Marvel Studios teased the cast by live-streaming a row of chairs bearing the names of several confirmed actors. Among them were Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Vanessa Kirby as the Invisible Woman, and Anthony Mackie as Captain America. Joining them were Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Letitia Wright (Princess Shuri), and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), who was notably given a smaller chair. Also included were Wyatt Russell (John Walker) and Tenoch Huerta Mejia (Namor).
Additional cast members include Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi. Furthermore, Kelsey Grammer will reprise his role as Beast, while Lewis Pullman is set to portray The Sentry. Marvel has hinted that more names will be revealed in the coming days as the live stream continues.

The film will be helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors behind Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, the Russos expressed their excitement at returning to the MCU, having initially believed their journey ended with Endgame. Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch has confirmed that Doctor Strange will not appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but is set to have a significant role in Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for release in 2027.
