Kim Cattrall has revealed that she was always very different from her Sex and the City character, Samantha Jones. The 69-year-old actress, who portrayed the confident and outspoken publicist from 1998 to 2004, said people often mistook her for the character. “I remember during the series, people wanted to speak to Samantha rather than to me,” she told People. “She was fascinating, wonderful, sexy and irreverent — all of those great things we can be. But she wasn’t me.”

Now living a quieter life, Cattrall explained that she has chosen to step away from Hollywood’s spotlight. “I have a home on Vancouver Island, which is my hideaway and paradise,” she said. “It’s long walks, reading books I’ve never had the time to read, and enjoying women’s fiction. It’s more solitary, just me and my partner, Russell Thomas.”
The actress added that she no longer defines herself through her acting career. “It defines me less,” she said. “Kim has taken over, not the characters I’ve played. The last decade has been about exploring myself and making my own choices.”

Cattrall also confirmed that she has no plans to film any more sex or nude scenes, explaining that she’s “just not interested” after years of doing so without intimacy coaches. Despite her long and successful career, she still has ambitions left to pursue, including creating her own sitcom. “I think it would be great fun to do something with an audience, playing a woman my own age,” she added. “I have a very specific idea of what I want to do.”
