Jennifer Lawrence reflects on filming challenges with dog in Die My Love

Jennifer Lawrence has admitted that the dog featured in Die My Love “annoyed the s***” out of her during filming. The 35-year-old actor plays an isolated woman experiencing postpartum depression, and although she is not fond of dogs, her co-star Robert Pattinson suggested the animal was “very nervous” around her. Speaking on Entertainment Weekly’s The Awardist podcast, Lawrence recalled her irritation, while Pattinson observed that the dog’s frequent barking may have stemmed from feeling judged.

Lawrence confirmed she is “more of a cat person”, while Pattinson described the animal as a “sweet dog” whose long periods of inactivity required adjustments to the script. The actor noted that scenes had to be rewritten to incorporate the dog’s persistent barking. Additional changes were also necessary for the infant twins portraying their on-screen baby, as both disliked their car seat, prompting the cast and crew to “recalibrate” various scenes.

The Hunger Games star – who shares her son Cy, three, and a second baby born earlier this year with her husband, Cooke Maroney – recently discussed her unexpected experience with postpartum depression. Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, she explained that despite looking forward to expanding her family, she was “caught off-guard” when symptoms emerged after the birth. She described feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and experiencing an “identity crisis” as she adjusted to life with a newborn.

Lawrence admitted she would have declined the role in Die My Love if she had been facing similar challenges at the time of reading the script. She explained that the emotional weight of the story would have been too difficult to confront during her own struggles, stating she would have “closed the book after the second page” because she needed distance from those feelings rather than immersion in them.
