Jack Black has made musical history with a 34-second jingle, Steve’s Lava Chicken, which features in the newly released A Minecraft Movie. The quirky tune, co-written with director Jared Hess, debuted at number 78 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, making it the shortest track ever to appear on the list. It replaces the previous record-holder, Kid Cudi’s 37-second song Beautiful Trip, by a narrow margin.

Fans have embraced the absurd charm of the jingle, calling it “joyful” and “hilarious”. One YouTube commenter enthused, “Jack Black is the only man who can sing about lava chicken and make it an absolute banger.” Others demanded an extended version and praised his comedic delivery and vocal performance.
In addition to Steve’s Lava Chicken, Black performs three more tracks on the film’s official soundtrack: I Feel Alive, Ode to Dennis, and Birthday Rap, the latter featuring actor Jason Momoa. The jingle has also charted in the top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs list, adding to Black’s growing presence in musical film soundtracks.

This isn’t the first time Black has found success on the charts. In 2023, his song Peaches from The Super Mario Bros. Movie peaked at number 56 on the Hot 100. As A Minecraft Movie continues its run in UK cinemas, fans seem eager for more musical moments from the actor.
