Emily Blunt has described returning to her role in The Devil Wears Prada 2 as “a rude awakening”. The British actress will reprise her role as the ambitious Emily Charlton in the sequel to the 2006 hit, which stars Meryl Streep as the formidable editor and Anne Hathaway as her assistant. Filming is currently underway in New York, where fans and photographers have frequently mobbed the set.

Blunt, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Oppenheimer, admitted that one of the challenges of returning to the world of high fashion is the footwear. She told Porter magazine: “I don’t love wearing heels, so getting back to The Devil Wears Prada has been a rude awakening for all of us.” She described revisiting the role as “wild” and remarked on the unexpected impact the original film has had on audiences.

Reflecting on the nostalgia surrounding the first film, Blunt said: “People have watched it with their families countless times, during sad moments or break-ups. Meeting fans who quote the film has been overwhelming, and coming back to the set makes us realise just how much it means to people.” She acknowledged that the film has deep emotional roots for the cast and crew.

Blunt also spoke fondly of co-star Stanley Tucci, noting the personal connections formed during filming. “He’s not great for your Devil Wears Prada diet,” she joked, “because he’s cooking pasta and making me drink martinis every night.” She added: “It has deep emotional roots for a lot of us. It’s not just doing a movie.”
