Demi Moore reflects on bikini scene, age pressure and embracing body acceptance

Demi Moore has spoken candidly about the intense scrutiny she faced over her appearance while filming Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, revealing that she requested not to be filmed from behind during a bikini scene. Appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show, the 62-year-old actress said she had just over three weeks to prepare for the role and was unprepared for the media attention surrounding her body — especially as she had just turned 40 while on set. “All I remember is begging them not to shoot my bum,” Moore said. “I don’t know why that was my obsession.”

The Oscar nominee, who starred alongside Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, noted she had taken a break from acting to focus on motherhood before her daughters encouraged her to return to the screen. “They finally were like, ‘You have to do this movie. We love the first one. Aren’t you going to work again?’” she recalled. Her daughters, Rumer, Tallulah, and Scout, attended the film’s Hollywood premiere in 2003 alongside Moore’s ex-husband Bruce Willis and then-partner Ashton Kutcher.

Looking back, Moore admitted she was taken aback by how her age became a talking point. In an interview with Elle in 2024, she noted, “People thought I shouldn’t have a body that was desirable” at that age. She felt her portrayal challenged stereotypes about older women in Hollywood. “I don’t think it would’ve been such a big deal if I hadn’t been of an age that, at that time, it was already determined that you should look awful,” she remarked.

In recent reflections shared with People in April 2025, Moore discussed her evolving relationship with body image and health. After years of extreme dieting and exercise — particularly post-G.I. Jane — she has since let go of obsessive control. “I didn’t know what my natural size was anymore,” she said. “Now, it’s so much more about overall well-being and longevity.” Embracing acceptance and self-kindness, Moore says she has found a gentler approach to her health and body.
