Daniel Radcliffe to return to Broadway in one-man play

Date:

Daniel Radcliffe is set to return to the Broadway stage in the one-man production Every Brilliant Thing. The British actor, who won a Tony Award last year for his performance in Merrily We Roll Along, will take on the role of a man who creates lists of reasons to live in an effort to support his mother, who is struggling with suicidal thoughts. The play, which blends humour and emotional depth, explores themes of hope, resilience and the impact of mental health on families.

Speaking to The New York Times, Radcliffe said he is eager to revisit the New York stage. “I love working in New York. I love working onstage. And I’ve been insanely lucky to be able to do both – to have a stage career and a film and TV career,” he shared. He added that he intends to continue returning to Broadway for as long as he is able, emphasising the artistic fulfilment theatre provides him.

Radcliffe also expressed excitement about the show’s audience-participation element, calling the unpredictability “intriguing” and “exciting”. However, he reassured theatregoers that participation is voluntary, noting that no one will be put on the spot if they prefer simply to watch. The production will be directed by Jeremy Herrin and Duncan Macmillan, who also co-wrote the work and currently direct its London staging. Previews begin at the Hudson Theatre on 21 February, with an official opening on 12 March.

Macmillan praised Radcliffe’s talent and versatility, saying he brings “intelligence, quick wit and charm” to the role and can “be a clown one moment, then grab you by the heartstrings the next”. Radcliffe’s return follows a number of successful Broadway appearances, including Equus, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and The Cripple of Inishmaan. His continued commitment to live theatre further cements his reputation as a performer who values range, craft and meaningful storytelling.
