Christian Horner could make £1.5bn Formula 1 comeback after Red Bull exit

Date:

Christian Horner is reportedly planning a dramatic return to Formula 1 following his high-profile departure from Red Bull, with reports suggesting he is exploring a £1.5 billion bid to buy or launch a new team. The 51-year-old, who lives in a £9.2 million country home in Marston Saint Lawrence with his wife Geri Halliwell-Horner, is said to have been approached by a consortium of wealthy investors keen to collaborate on the venture.

Mr Horner, who was dismissed from his role as Red Bull’s team principal last month after nearly two decades of service, received a reported £80 million payout following his exit. During his tenure, he led the team to eight drivers’ world championships and six constructors’ titles, establishing Red Bull as one of the most successful outfits in modern Formula 1.

According to The Times, discussions are already underway regarding Horner’s possible return to the paddock, which could come as early as April 2026 once his Red Bull settlement is complete. Rather than taking on another team principal position, sources suggest he is more interested in team ownership, giving him a fresh and more powerful role within the sport.

The report also notes that both FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali are unlikely to oppose Horner’s comeback. If successful, the move would mark one of the most significant personal comebacks in the sport’s history, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape of Formula 1.
