Anthony Trueman is set to make a surprise return to EastEnders, reuniting with his father, Patrick (Rudolph Walker), as he prepares to remarry Yolande (Angela Wynter). Actor Nicholas Bailey is reprising the role after more than a decade away, with producers teasing that his comeback may last longer than originally planned. Anthony arrives in Walford to surprise Patrick, but circumstances at home may compel him to stay.

Bailey expressed his enthusiasm for rejoining the cast, saying: “It is an unexpected treat to return to EastEnders, and I’m full of gratitude to get the opportunity to revisit the character of Anthony. It’s wonderful to work with Rudolph Walker again – he’s such a big part of my journey as an actor, and I loved filming my first scenes with him after so long.” He also hinted at new storylines, adding that he is eager to explore how the years apart have changed Anthony and shaped his relationship with his father.
Anthony was last seen on the programme in 2014, when he returned to support Patrick after he suffered a stroke. Since then, he has lived away from Walford, but he makes his way back for the wedding after receiving an invitation. However, his return coincides with a turning point in Patrick’s life, one that will require Anthony’s presence beyond just the ceremony.

Ben Wadey, executive producer of EastEnders, said: “It’s great to welcome Nicholas back to the EastEnders family to reunite Patrick with his son. But Anthony’s plan for a brief return to surprise his father ends up with him staying longer than he expected when he uncovers what has been going on in the Trueman household.” Bailey has already begun filming, and his episodes are set to air later this summer. This return comes shortly after the announcement that Jake Wood will reprise his role as Max Branning this autumn.
