Steven Knight on writing the next james bond film

Date:

Steven Knight has said he refuses to “second guess what people want” while working on the new James Bond movie. The Peaky Blinders creator was recently hired by Amazon MGM Studios to pen the script for the next instalment of the 007 franchise. While he enjoys the process, Knight insists he is not trying to anticipate what fans might expect following 2021’s No Time To Die.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Knight said: “I absolutely can’t talk about anything to do with it. I love it though. The only way to do the job is to do what you want to do, and then if people like it, great. If they don’t, they don’t, so I try not to second guess what people want and just do what I think would be the best thing.”

The role of the suave spy has yet to be recast after Daniel Craig stepped down in 2021. Knight recently admitted that he is writing the script without a particular actor in mind and confessed to The Sunday Times that he has “no plan” for how the screenplay will unfold. “Though I do know this character’s going to do this, this, and then they’re going to die, or they’re going to become king. So that’s the plan,” he said.

A self-confessed Bond fan, Knight hopes to deliver a “stronger and bolder” script for the next 007 adventure. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, he added: “It has always been on my bucket list and it’s fantastic to be invited to do it – I can’t wait to get started. I’m hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me and I will be able to produce something that’s the same but different, better, stronger and bolder.”
