Jonathan Bailey reflects on success and emotional milestones

Date:

Jonathan Bailey has spoken candidly about navigating the highs and lows of his acting career. The 37-year-old performer has enjoyed a significant period of success, with standout roles in the Netflix hit Bridgerton and the forthcoming Wicked film franchise. However, he acknowledges that such momentum is not guaranteed to last, noting that joy and pressure often coexist during major professional moments.

Speaking to Esquire, Bailey explained that he has learnt to embrace the full range of emotions that come with change. He reflected that feelings of safety and connection bring genuine joy, while periods of transition may be stressful yet still contain “pockets that are really great”. This mindset, he said, helps him approach his work with a sense of balance and acceptance.

Bailey also revealed that he became emotional during the London premiere of Wicked: For Good, in which he reprises the role of Fiyero. Sitting beside his niece, he said he was moved by seeing her take in the experience, admitting that he “started crying and couldn’t stop”. It was a moment made more poignant by the presence of his family and school friends.

Reflecting further, Bailey described a feeling of pride and relief at the premiere, recognising the years of dedication from director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt. While actors contribute only a fraction of the work behind such large-scale productions, he said the event felt like a “real release” and expressed his delight that audiences will soon be able to enjoy the finished film.
