Liverpool Legends to face Borussia Dortmund Legends at Anfield

Date:

Liverpool Legends will face Borussia Dortmund Legends at Anfield next March for the 2026 edition of the LFC Foundation charity match, set for Saturday 28 March. The fixture celebrates the historic ties between the clubs, from a shared former manager to the iconic anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone. With Dortmund returning to Merseyside, speculation has already begun over whether Jürgen Klopp might make an appearance, given his role as honorary ambassador for the LFC Foundation.

Klopp, who became the foundation’s first honorary ambassador in 2024, praised its work both locally and internationally. He previously led Dortmund to back-to-back Bundesliga titles before guiding Liverpool to Champions League glory and the club’s long-awaited Premier League triumph. Although this legends clash will differ from the intensity of their dramatic 2016 Europa League meeting, the occasion is expected to bring a celebratory atmosphere as former stars take to the pitch once more.

The squad list for the 2026 fixture has yet to be revealed, but previous editions have featured Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso. Matt Parish, chief executive of the LFC Foundation, highlighted that the annual match raises crucial funds, supporting health, education and employability initiatives across the Liverpool City Region and beyond. He stressed that the event honours footballing history while creating a lasting social impact.

Tickets are now on general sale, with proceeds supporting both the LFC Foundation and the BVB Foundation, which backs community projects in Dortmund and the wider Ruhr area. The funds will help the LFC Foundation deliver key programmes, including employability support and its long-term strategy to assist 500,000 people per season by 2030. Previous legends fixtures have raised more than £9 million, contributing vital resources to programmes that supported over 145,000 people during the 2024–25 season.
