Jeff Bridges has expressed delight after learning that Leonardo DiCaprio drew inspiration from his iconic character, The Dude, for his latest role. DiCaprio stars in Paul Thomas Anderson’s action thriller One Battle After Another, portraying a dishevelled former revolutionary who is drawn back into conflict to save his daughter. During the film’s press tour in September, the Titanic actor revealed that Bridges’ laid-back stoner persona in the 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski influenced his approach to the role.

Responding to the comments in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bridges said he was flattered, describing the film and its performances as “wonderful”. He praised DiCaprio’s work in the ensemble, which also features Sean Penn, and reflected fondly on the project. “Leo just kicked a*s… it was a wonderful experience,” he remarked.
Bridges also acknowledged similarities between The Dude and DiCaprio’s character, Bob Ferguson. He noted that, at first glance, both characters may appear idle or aimless, yet a closer look reveals greater depth and unexpected resilience. “Their spirits run deeper than that,” he explained, adding that he appreciated the comparison.

DiCaprio, speaking to Variety on the red carpet, said he enjoyed playing a man who spends much of his time at home smoking cannabis before being thrown into chaotic circumstances. He likened the experience to embodying a series of comic missteps rather than attempting to appear heroic. One Battle After Another has since earned six Gotham Award nominations, including Best Feature, Best Director and acting recognition for Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro and Chase Infiniti.
