Connie Nielsen has revealed that her costume for the forthcoming Robin Hood series weighed “around 400 pounds”, leaving her physically exhausted during filming. The Danish actress, who plays Eleanor of Aquitaine in the Middle Ages-set drama, explained that the elaborate gown and hairpiece made the role particularly demanding during the Serbia-based shoot. She stars alongside Sean Bean, who appears as the Sheriff of Nottingham, with Jack Patten as Robin Hood and Lauren McQueen as Marian.

Nielsen praised writers and executive producers John Glenn and Jonathan English for their commitment to historical detail and cinematic scale. She admitted she typically avoids watching her own work but viewed the first episode at a screening in Los Angeles and described it as “spectacular”, adding that the series looked “like a film” despite being produced for television. The actress expressed confidence that audiences will appreciate the show’s authentic period setting and ambitious production values.

Sean Bean, who has significant experience in period action roles from Game of Thrones, Sharpe and The Lord of the Rings, said he relished returning to horse riding and sword fighting for the project. The 66-year-old noted that he spent long days riding on set and enjoyed choreographing fight scenes with co-star Jack Patten. He described the physical elements of the role as one of the most rewarding aspects of the production.
