Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill duology returns to Netflix

Date:

Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 1 and Volume 2 have been added to Netflix, sparking renewed speculation about the possibility of a third instalment. The two films, following the bloody quest for revenge of The Bride (Uma Thurman), are now available to subscribers in the UK and Ireland. Originally released in 2003 and 2004, the movies were widely celebrated for their stylised action sequences and distinctive storytelling.

Tarantino has previously hinted at plans for a potential third chapter focusing on Vernita Green’s daughter, Nikki, but recent comments suggest those plans have been shelved. In 2021, he reflected on a proposed trilogy, including an anime prequel exploring the origins of Bill and his Godfathers, but admitted that revisiting the franchise had become creatively exhausting. He even suggested casting Thurman’s real-life daughter, Maya Hawke, in the role of B.B.

Uma Thurman has also addressed the rumours, stating in 2022 that a sequel is not “immediately on the horizon.” While discussions have occurred over the years, she indicated that nothing is imminent. Fans hoping for a third Kill Bill film may therefore be disappointed, as Tarantino appears focused on other projects and has confirmed that his planned tenth feature, The Movie Critic, will not proceed.

Despite these setbacks, Tarantino continues to reflect on his filmmaking process, drawing parallels between creating period Los Angeles for Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and what would have been required for The Movie Critic. He explained that while transforming the setting of the past was achievable, the proposed tenth movie felt “too much like the last one,” effectively closing the door on both projects for the foreseeable future.
