Date:

A long-standing mystery from Avengers: Endgame has finally been clarified. Six years after the film’s release, Marvel unveiled Thunderbolts: The Art of the Movie*, a new book revealing what truly became of Captain America’s shield. Fans will recall that in Endgame, Cap’s original shield was destroyed by Thanos during the Battle of Earth.

Later, an older Steve Rogers passed a new shield to Sam Wilson, which featured his iconic logo. According to Marvel’s art book, the original shield was intended to appear in Thunderbolts, showing that Valentina Allegra de Fontaine had acquired it for display in The Watchtower. This idea, however, never reached the screen.

Instead, Thunderbolts portrayed Valentina as a powerful and wealthy businesswoman collecting Avengers artefacts, especially from the Battle of New York, rather than focusing on Cap’s shield. By the end of the film, Valentina finds herself in a vulnerable position, tasked with introducing Yelena Belova and her friends as the new Avengers.

It remains uncertain whether her collection or character will appear in future instalments. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who plays Valentina, has hinted at a possible return in Avengers: Doomsday during a recent Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance, though she carefully avoided confirming any details.
