The psychological thriller stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Maika Monroe, Raúl Castillo and Martin Starr. It follows Caitlin (Winstead) and her husband Miguel Morales (Castillo), who live in the suburbs with their two children. When they hire a nanny, Polly Murphy (Monroe), Caitlin soon suspects that her family has become entangled in a disturbing and manipulative scheme.

The cast also includes Mileiah Vega, Riki Lindhome and Shannon Cochran, with direction by Mexican filmmaker Michelle Garza Cervera. She has stated that her film is not a straightforward remake, but rather a reimagining. While certain aspects remain, such as the ages of the children and family dynamics, the story is set in Los Angeles rather than Seattle and explores deeper character backstories and new motivations.

Cervera described her version as “pretty dark”, explaining that it places both the protagonist and antagonist in morally ambiguous territory. She added that the film builds tension through a slow-burn approach, contrasting with the pace of the 1992 original. Praising Monroe’s performance, she noted that the actor brought a “contained, sinister energy” to the role of Polly, which she believes adds a fresh edge to the classic story.
