Ellen DeGeneres has been accused of causing a car accident that left a woman seriously injured. The talk show host is facing a lawsuit over the incident at a four-way intersection in Santa Barbara County, California, during which she allegedly “T-boned” the woman’s vehicle. The complaint claims DeGeneres’s “negligent conduct” caused the 67-year-old driver to collide with another car that had stopped at a stop sign and ensured the junction was clear.

According to the legal documents, as the plaintiff’s vehicle proceeded straight through the intersection, it was suddenly struck from the right by DeGeneres’s car, causing multiple serious injuries. The lawsuit alleges that DeGeneres entered the intersection without stopping at the stop sign, which contributed significantly to the accident. The complaint states the incident led to “loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and anxiety,” alongside medical and financial impacts.
The woman involved is seeking compensation for lost wages, hospital and medical expenses, general damages, and loss of earning capacity relating to the 2023 collision. The case was filed in Los Angeles and seen by Fox News. Legal proceedings are ongoing, with the plaintiff holding DeGeneres responsible for the resulting injuries and trauma.

DeGeneres, who moved to the Cotswolds in November 2024 with her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, has not publicly commented on the lawsuit. When asked in July about her relocation following the US presidential election, DeGeneres explained to the BBC that they intended to spend up to four months a year in the UK, but the election results led them to remain longer than planned. A spokesperson for DeGeneres has been contacted for comment.
