Harrison Ford has revealed he recently reached out to Jay Leno for the first time in more than a decade, and the request was far from ordinary. The Indiana Jones star appeared on NPR’s podcast Wild Card with Rachel Martin, where he was answering existential questions before being interrupted by a phone call from the former Tonight Show host.

Explaining the unusual situation, Ford revealed: “Jay’s printing a 3D-printed toilet seat for me.” Naturally, Martin asked why. Ford said that in his Wyoming home he has a toilet with a discoloured and unattractive seat. The model has long been discontinued, and despite years of searching — even with help from contacts in the plumbing trade — he was unable to find a replacement.
Remembering that Leno owned a 3D printer, which he had once seen in the comedian’s garage, Ford decided to call in a favour, despite admitting it was “really hard” to ask. “He embraced the project in a way that I never could have imagined,” Ford said, explaining that several people unexpectedly became involved in helping create the bespoke replacement. Asked whether the seat would be functional or simply decorative, Ford confirmed it was destined for everyday use: “This is going to be the toilet seat in my office.”

Beyond his new 3D-printed seat, this year has also been significant for Ford professionally. Now 83, the actor has received his first-ever Emmy nomination, recognised in the category of Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his role as Dr Paul Rhoades in Shrinking. It marks a milestone in a career spanning over six decades.
