Broadcaster Eamonn Holmes has spoken candidly about insincerity within the entertainment industry, revealing his frustration with “false” personalities he has encountered during his career. Speaking on his podcast Things We Like, Holmes was joined by actor Ray Winstone, where the pair discussed fame, authenticity and their shared distaste for the superficiality of celebrity culture.

Holmes, who co-hosted This Morning alongside Ruth Langsford for 15 years, admitted that his refusal to feign affection for colleagues has caused friction over the years. “If I don’t like someone, they’ll know it,” he stated, adding: “There are so many horrible people you end up with.” He contrasted this with genuine admiration for Winstone, saying, “If they ask me what Ray Winstone is like, I’ll say he’s lovely – and people will believe me, because I wouldn’t say it if he wasn’t.”
Winstone, known for his no-nonsense persona, echoed Holmes’s sentiments, describing Hollywood as a “fantasy world” and expressing disdain for its obsession with status. He recalled his negative experience working with Jack Nicholson during the filming of The Departed, saying the actor was “very rude” to both him and his wife. “If I had been a younger man, I would have knocked him out,” Winstone said.

In a more personal revelation, Holmes also reflected on his health challenges, having undergone spinal surgery and a double hip replacement. Now reliant on a mobility scooter, the presenter shared his struggle with mobility recovery. Posting a photograph from three years ago in which he was able to stand unaided, he said it made him “sad” and added that he was determined to “redouble” his rehabilitation efforts.
