Medieval castle gardens to open for Hospice Fundraiser this summer

Date:

Allington Castle, a rarely accessible medieval residence in Kent, will open its gardens to the public this summer in support of the Heart of Kent Hospice. The historic estate will welcome visitors on Sunday, 20 July and Sunday, 3 August, offering a rare opportunity to explore the 12th-century castle grounds while raising vital funds for end-of-life care.

The open days will feature a family-friendly treasure trail, with prizes for children who complete the activity. Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnics, and a bar will be available for refreshments. While dogs are not permitted, free parking is offered, making the day convenient for families. Tickets are priced at £15 for adults, £10 for children, or £45 for a family pass, with all proceeds going directly to the hospice.

Maisie Bass, Event Manager at the hospice, stressed the importance of local support: “Like most hospices, we receive only limited NHS funding and must raise £6.6 million each year to provide free specialist care to individuals and their loved ones. Events like this are crucial in ensuring we can continue our services across Maidstone, Aylesford, Tonbridge and the surrounding areas.”

Situated on 42 acres along the River Medway, Allington Castle is one of Kent’s finest private estates. Once graced by Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, it offers not only historical intrigue but also a tranquil natural setting with abundant wildlife. Booking is essential and can be made via the Heart of Kent Hospice website, which also lists further fundraising events throughout the year.
