Tom Cruise has earned a remarkable new Guinness World Record for completing the most burning parachute jumps by an individual. The accolade was awarded following his daring stunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, where the actor performed the jump an astonishing 16 times during filming.

According to Guinness World Records, Cruise launched himself from a helicopter over Drakensberg, South Africa, while harnessed to a parachute soaked in fuel. Each time, he allowed the parachute to ignite and burn mid-air before cutting it away and deploying a secondary chute to land safely. The stunt required meticulous planning, as the parachute could only remain alight for a few seconds before disintegrating. The sequence was repeated multiple times to capture the ideal take.
Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief at Guinness World Records, praised Cruise’s commitment, describing him as “an action hero in real life”. He remarked that Cruise’s dedication to authenticity and pushing the limits of what is possible has become a defining feature of his success, adding it was an honour to award the actor this new title.

This is not Cruise’s first world record. He also holds the record for the most consecutive $100-million-grossing films for an actor, with 11 hits ranging from Jack Reacher (2012) to Final Reckoning (2025). Following the film’s box office triumph – grossing $190 million globally during its opening weekend – Cruise thanked the production team and fans, calling the achievement one for the “history books”.
