Diddy’s trial: Ventura to return to stand amidst ongoing legal battle

Date:

Casandra “Cassie” Ventura is expected to return to the witness stand after detailing her claims of physical abuse, psychological manipulation, and sexual degradation at the hands of her former partner, Sean “Diddy” Combs. As the 55-year-old hip-hop mogul’s sex trafficking trial enters its third day, prosecutors have indicated they will require “half the day” to finish their questioning of Ventura. The court has yet to decide whether videos of the alleged “freak-off” sessions will be made available to the public.

In emotional testimony, Ventura described disturbing, drug-fuelled sex sessions involving male prostitutes that left her feeling “disgusting.” She accused Combs of orchestrating these sessions, including a specific request to reapply baby oil at five-minute intervals to ensure she remained “glistening.” Ventura also claimed that Combs had control over even the smallest details of her life, including her career choices and the colour of her nails. “Sean controlled a lot of my life, whether it was career, the way I dressed, everything, everything,” she said during her testimony.

Combs faces multiple charges, including sex trafficking, transportation for prostitution, and racketeering conspiracy. Federal authorities arrested him in September 2024, alleging that between 2004 and 2024, he had threatened, abused, and coerced victims to fulfil his sexual desires. Combs has denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

The court has yet to resolve whether the controversial “freak-off” videos will be made public. Lawyers for several media organisations, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, have requested that the courtroom remain open for the jury’s viewing of the videos. If this is not possible, the attorneys have asked for three pool reporters to be appointed to observe the footage. Combs’s defence attorney, Marc Agnifilo, has argued that the videos should be edited, labelling the content as pornography and a privacy concern.
