Sir Michael Fabricant has revealed that Mickey Rourke had hoped to leave the Celebrity Big Brother house as early as “day one”. The 72-year-old Hollywood actor, known for films such as The Wrestler and 9 1/2 Weeks, was formally removed from the programme on Saturday following repeated use of inappropriate language and instances of unacceptable behaviour. ITV confirmed the decision came after discussions with producers, noting Rourke’s conduct had crossed boundaries. Reports indicate the actor used threatening language during a task, directed at fellow housemate Chris Hughes, although there was no physical altercation.

Despite being nominated for eviction alongside former Conservative MP Sir Michael and Coronation Street actor Jack P. Shepherd, Rourke had been spared by the public vote. Following his own departure on Friday, Sir Michael commented on social media: “He wanted to leave on day one.” He went on to share his affection for his fellow contestants, saying he missed several of them and even expressed a desire to return to the house. Earlier in the week, Rourke had already received an official warning from Big Brother regarding his language and behaviour, particularly in an incident involving JoJo Siwa.
Rourke caused controversy when he made inappropriate remarks regarding Siwa’s sexuality. After Siwa clarified that she is attracted to women, Rourke remarked: “If I stay longer than four days, you won’t be gay any more.” Chris Hughes swiftly intervened, pointing out that such comments were unacceptable. Rourke also made a comment about needing “a fag”, which he claimed was not aimed at Siwa, but which nonetheless raised concerns. He was issued a formal warning and told that similar future conduct could result in his removal — a consequence that ultimately came to pass. Rourke later apologised, attributing his behaviour to a short temper and insisting he meant no harm.

In a separate episode, Rourke appeared to predict his own exit, and reportedly upset EastEnders star Patsy Palmer with a remark about her cooking, which she perceived as sarcastic. Despite the controversy surrounding his time on the show, Rourke’s Hollywood legacy remains intact. The Oscar-nominated actor’s decades-spanning career includes standout performances in Iron Man 2, Sin City, The Expendables and his Bafta-winning role in The Wrestler, where he portrayed a retired professional wrestler seeking redemption.
