Jennifer Garner Reveals Mark Ruffalo’s 13 Going on 30 Dance Struggle

Date:

In a surprising revelation, Jennifer Garner disclosed that her co-star Mark Ruffalo faced a near-breaking point while filming the iconic dance scene in “13 Going on 30.” The beloved 2004 comedy starred Garner, Ruffalo, and Judy Greer as adult versions of their teenage characters, captivating audiences with their nostalgic journey.

The memorable scene in question features the trio flawlessly executing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” choreography, a moment that encapsulated the film’s charm. However, according to Garner, Ruffalo found himself struggling to keep up with the dance rehearsals, nearly considering dropping out of the project altogether.

In a candid video for The Skimm, Garner reminisced about their rehearsal process, highlighting Ruffalo’s initial discomfort with the intricate dance moves. “We started to learn the dance. Our first rehearsal, I think it was Mark and Judy and me, and Judy and I were both dancers growing up, and poor Mark didn’t know that,” Garner shared, recalling the challenges Ruffalo faced.

Responding to Garner’s remarks, Ruffalo humorously acknowledged his difficulties, stating, “It didn’t help that it took me 3 hours to learn what Jen mastered in about 20 minutes.” Despite the hurdles, Ruffalo expressed gratitude for persevering through the experience, emphasizing the character’s journey in the film.

Garner and Ruffalo recently reunited on-screen for “The Adam Project,” marking their first collaboration since “13 Going on 30.” Their effortless chemistry on set reaffirmed their connection, with Garner describing the experience as “wonderful.”

As for her iconic character Jenna Rink from “13 Going on 30,” Garner expressed hope that she would maintain her whimsical spirit. “She would have to still have some 13-year-old in her,” Garner mused, reflecting on the enduring appeal of the film.

Despite the passage of time, the magic of “13 Going on 30” continues to resonate with audiences, reminding us of the joy of embracing our inner child.
